It’s important that accurate actual Pensionable Pay information is provided, as pension benefits are built up in each scheme year in the Career Average Revalued Earnings (CARE) scheme based on Pensionable Pay. Members will receive an Annual Benefit Statement giving details of these benefits and it is the information provided by you, as the employer that will be used to calculate the amounts shown on the Statement.
Crucially this means submitting an accurate figure for the total Pensionable Pay plus any Assumed Pensionable Pay (APP) that the member has accrued during the year.
The year-end CARE spreadsheet must reflect the dates and cumulative Pensionable Pay figure in respect of the MAIN and/or the 50/50 section membership - depending upon which section of the scheme the member has contributed to during the Scheme year. It could be both.
Please complete the CARE spreadsheet in full, and if the member has more than one job/role, each one should be listed separately. The year-end spreadsheet should also include any in-year leavers.
Completing the CARE pay elements on the year-end return
Here are some examples for year 2016/17:
- The ‘From date’ will be 01/04/2016, or later if the member started after 01/04/2016; and
- The ‘To date’ will be 31/03/2017, or the date of leaving if the member has left.
